Genome Canada’s Genomic Applications Partnership Program (GAPP) is now open for its 2026 round of funding. As a key program under the Government of Canada’s Canadian Genomics Strategy (CGS), GAPP invests in the commercialization and adoption of genomics and biotechnology – and Genome Atlantic is here to help Atlantic Canadian organizations take advantage of this opportunity.
GAPP is designed to support Canadian for-profit enterprises that have an economic interest in turning genomics and biotech research into commercial applications. Each project must be a partnership between an industry receptor and a researcher, with optional support from co-investigators and/or collaborators.
The Program aims to:
- Increase Canadian private-sector investment in the commercialization of innovation derived from public R&D funding in genomics and biotechnology
- Stimulate technological innovation and implementation through cooperative R&D between researchers and industry receptors
- Enable research investments that de-risk opportunities and attract follow-on funding from finance and industry
- Foster and encourage participation in innovation and entrepreneurship by individuals from equity-deserving communities
New in 2026: Up to 20 per cent of Genome Canada’s funding in any GAPP project may now flow directly to the receptor organization. Eligibility and funding requirements have been updated to reflect this change.
Important dates:
- April 7, 2026: GAPP launch
- May 27, 2026: Final date to receive LOI submissions
- Within 2 weeks of LOI submission: Notice of Eligibility
- June 2026: Full Proposal Due
- Mid-September 2026: CET Pitch Week
