Genomics and Human Health
Genomics is leading the way to better diagnostic tools and treatments in human health.
By studying the human genome, we are gaining insights that are leading to more targeted and precise approaches to diagnose and manage a range of diseases. Genome Atlantic-supported research identified the gene responsible for an often-fatal heart diseases prevalent in Newfoundland and Labrador. We have enabled research aimed at speedier and more effective treatments for bipolar disorder and for rare diseases in children. Genome Atlantic has also supported the development of Covid surveillance and diagnostic tools, including wastewater sampling to provide advance warning of outbreaks.

Explore Opportunities
Bring us your ideas.
We help companies, researchers and other partners assess, develop and validate the potential of āomics R&D to address a challenge or opportunity. We can employ a number of services or activities to help you; some of these opportunities may be eligible for the Genome Atlantic Genomics Opportunity Review Program.
We can help you:
- Determine and prioritise areas where āomics may provide benefit
- Identify approaches to āomics R&D that may be required
- Examine technology options best suited to the business and scientific landscape
- Address gaps in expertise and resources
- Develop an R&D roadmap for the initiative, including relevant funding sources, which may include:
- Genome Canada,Ā
- NRC-IRAP,
- NSERC Engage,
- NSERC CRD,
- ACOA AIF,Ā
- Growing Forward II,Ā
- CIHR
- and others
Find a Partner and Funding
We Know Where To Look.
We connect industry and researchers to develop the best āomics solutions to todayās biggest challenges. We use our extensive network of āomics experts, companies, economic development and innovation experts, funding agencies and the Genome Canada family to find the best people to address your situation. If you need expertise, funding or partners to help with your challenge, talk to us. We can:
Connect you with āomics specialists, research teams, companies and other partners to help identify, shape or refine an āomics R&D idea
Facilitate meetings or workshops between parties
Help you find funding for partnership development initiatives
Develop Proposals
Hands On Help Is Here.
We help companies, researchers and other partners develop strategic, competitive and results-focused proposals. Whether itās $20,000 or $2 million, funding bodies are increasingly looking for clear, effective initiatives that produce real social and economic benefits.
Over the years, weāve helped dozens of teams pursue millions of dollars in āomics R&D funding. Weāve developed a thorough system, and an extensive network of experienced professionals who bring insight and value to each proposal.
We roll up our sleeves, and work with you every step of the way to:
- Outline and implement a project plan for the proposal development phase
- Plan and/or facilitate proposal writing sessions
- Identify regulatory and other technology adoption hurdles
- Engage subject matter experts, writers and other consultants as needed
- Identify and help pursue sources of co-funding, as needed
- Develop a budget that aligns with R&D needs and funder requirements
Hurray! Youāve made it through the proposal development process. Now what?
If your proposal is successful, we can work with the universities, researchers, companies and other proponents to provide 3rd party, neutral advice and guidance through the notice of award stage, which includes the development of a collaborative research agreement, and satisfying pre-disbursement conditions.
Once youāve crossed those hurdles, we can help with a number of aspects of managing the project itself, including developing a project management protocol, establishing criteria for and/or hiring the project manager, and providing financial management and oversight.
If your proposal is not successful, we can help you re-assess the initiative, implement any feedback from the funding agency, and revisit the R&D roadmap to determine what alternative funding sources you may pursue.
