The Project aimed to improve early rearing diets for cod to achieve the growth rates required by the cod aquaculture industry in Atlantic Canada and Iceland. This project ran until March 31st, 2014, with all data collection complete, and manuscripts in development. Key findings indicate positive results from a diet of rotifers and artemia with ori-green enrichment.
This $892,280-project was a trans-Atlantic effort between Memorial University/Department of Ocean Sciences, Genome Atlantic, the Newfoundland Cod Broodstock Company, the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, Research & Development Corporation of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Marine Research Institute (Reykjavik, Iceland).
Genome Atlantic gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the Government of Canada through Genome Canada, as well as the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and the provincial governments of Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island.
Genome Atlantic is one of 7 Genome Centres in Canada that are part of the Genome Canada Enterprise. This network encourages collaboration, with each centre focusing on the needs of their respective regions.
