The Atlantic Ports Baseline Biodiversity Initiative has been nominated for an International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) Sustainability Award which celebrates the highest quality port-sustainability projects from around the world. Genome Atlantic is proud to be part of this pioneering project, which uses environmental DNA (eDNA) to monitor biodiversity in four Atlantic ports: Halifax, Saint John, Summerside, and Corner Brook. By offering a non-invasive, cost-effective and accurate alternative to traditional methods, the project aims to enhance environmental oversight, support local conservation programs, and demonstrate a scalable model for global port biomonitoring. The project is supported through Genome Canada’s eDNA Surveillance Fund.
