A Message From Our President and CEO

Dear Partners and Colleagues,

It is a great pleasure to reach out to you in my first correspondence as Genome Atlantic’s President and CEO. From the outset, I have been struck by the dedication and talent of the team, the richness of our partnerships, and the opportunity ahead to deliver impactful solutions for Atlantic Canada.

Genome Atlantic begins this next chapter from a position of strength with great thanks to the leadership of my predecessor Dr. Steve Armstrong. His 18 years as President and CEO helped transform Genome Atlantic into the respected and highly capable organization it is today.

As we move forward, we will build on this foundation by helping our partners use genomic science to pursue solutions that make a difference in our region. From oyster beds and blueberry fields to energy projects, health systems, and beyond, across Atlantic Canada, we will help partners tackle risk sooner, act with greater confidence, pursue innovation, and realize tangible benefits.

- Dr. Marlies Rise, President and CEO, Genome Atlantic

We are primed to contribute to some of the region’s most important priorities, including responsible resource development, critical mineral exploration and extraction, clean energy and storage, environmental stewardship, sustainable ocean industries, food systems, human health, dual-use technologies and AI-ready biological and environmental data. Across these areas, we will equip partners to move from opportunity to implementation by convening expertise, aligning public and private priorities, and generating the evidence needed to turn potential into prosperity.

This work is already taking shape through Genome Atlantic’s current funding opportunities. Our dual-use technology call provides a new lens for pursuing innovations that can deliver significant benefits for communities, well-being, and the economy, while also contributing to the defence of Canada’s sovereignty. Genome Canada’s Natural Resources Initiative will lay the scientific foundations for a generational transformation in Canadian natural resources systems and biodiversity management.

In the weeks and months ahead, I look forward to listening carefully, understanding your priorities, and exploring where Genome Atlantic can propel impact to the benefit of our economy and the health of our citizens. Whether you are a longstanding partner or newly interested in our work, I would welcome the opportunity to connect.

With warm regards,

Dr. Marlies Rise
President and CEO
Genome Atlantic
